Selection Criteria: He only had a scabbard to donate but wanted to help.
Recipient: C/Maj Noelle B Heiser
Mac was one of the first to respond to a call for donated sabers. His mother had recently died and when he took the saber he had given his parents off the wall he found the saber had been broken sometime in the previous 49 years. But he wanted to participate if at all possible. Shortly after his call Stephen Schmidt called and said that he did not have a scabbard because it had rusted out in his parents home in Hawaii. Luckily they were both more than willing to collaborate on giving a saber to a cadet. Stephen had started with the Class of 1967 and wanted a cadet who had been turned back and was a great team player. An extensive search involving several AOC’s and the admittance office gave the nomination of C/Maj Noelle B Heiser. I was honored to be able to give the combined saber and scabbard from Stephen Schmidt and MacWain Phillips to her at the 100 Night Flying Fickle Finger of Fate Event.
