Bo wanted his saber to go to a cadet like he had been, somewhere in the middle of the class but still a good cadet. When the CS-18 AOC, Capt Chris Gilbert, was contacted he had no problem nominating Cadet Lee. Col Williams was pleased that his friend and fellow test pilot, Col Ed “Test Pilot” Thomas, was able to give his saber to Cadet Ryan Lee.
